Message from Charity

Help change the lives of breast cancer survivors in our community!

ywcaencore is a free 8-week exercise program designed specifically for women who have experienced mastectomy, lumpectomy or breast reconstruction at any stage of their lives.   ywcaencore helps women with the after-effects of breast cancer surgery and treatment, helping to restore strength, mobility and flexibility, confidence and general well-being. ywcaencore is MORE than an exercise program. The sessions are also an opportunity for women to share their experiences in a safe and supportive environment and connect with other women in their local area who understand what it is like to experience breast cancer.

My Message

Hmmm, a lump. “Feel it,” I say to my husband, my sister. My heart starts to pound through my body. “Was it there before? How long was it there? Thoughts run wild?” It’s checked – it doesn’t seem suspicious – relief – well, somewhat. Hmm “keep an eye on it”. Months later – still there – no real difference. “Oh a mammogram, change work schedule for it”, oh no, heart pounds…insidious fear sets in again. Sitting in the chair “we are going to get another image” my heart pounds louder – prayer is the only thing that keeps me breathing. “An ultrasound – now?” – I walk in disbelief to my husband – my heart almost stops. “Well, it has some features of a cyst but not sure” – needle biopsy recommended... “Hello Anne Marie,” a pause, I wait, “It’s breast cancer”.

I prayed that God would bring something good out of my Breast Cancer. My act of turning my pain into purpose has been through bringing ywcaencore to the Hamilton community. November will mark my 8 year anniversary of being diagnosed and I am celebrating being cancer free by participating in this run.

I have been privileged to share in the lives of over 140 women through the ywcaencore program. These women have shown great courage in the face of fear; strength when the body was weary; compassion even in the midst of their own crisis and a spirit that is inspiring beyond words.

Will you honour them with me, and JOIN me in supporting a program that significantly benefits women that have survived breast cancer.

We need your support  to help women know they are not alone and to bring them HOPE, HEALTH & WHOLENESS.

With sincere gratitude and appreciation for LIFE, Anne Marie
