By now, most of you are very familiar with Jilly’s story and the reason for this great event.  If you are new to our Joggin’ for the Noggin’ community welcome and read on!  Our daughter Jilly developed a life threatening brain infection in May of 2012. It was out of the blue and progressed so quickly that she needed emergency surgery at SickKids.  It ended up being a 6 hour life saving surgery.  Since then, she has endured many surgeries and prcedures and continues to do so as her body heals from the damage caused by the infection.
I’m sure you can imagine how grateful we are to be able to share her recovery story.
We are forever indebted to the staff of SickKids Hospital for all that they did in not only saving her life but in the support, and care that Jilly continues to receive. We are especially thankful for  Dr. Dirks, Dr. Taylor,  Dr.Philips and their teams for the important part they play in Jilly’s treatment and ongoing recovery.

We are so excited that our friends, family and this amazing community has rallied together to make Joggin’ for the Noggin’ such a success.  Over the last two years we have raised $25,781 for SickKids Neurosurgery.  This money goes directly towards Dr.Dirk’s research at the hospital.   We encourage you to train, run and raise some funds! But mostly we encourage you to take a moment and be thankful for the gift of health and for Sick Kids Hospital.  If you want to collect pledges, you will find a pdf pledge sheet attached or you can set up your own online fundraising page.  We will also have the Green Helmet Donation Box at the race start!  The Green helmet is the helmet that Jillian had to wear for an entire year to protect her brain.  After the initial infection, a large piece of her skull had to be removed in order for her brain to heal.  It took just over a year and a few extra surgeries for her to get the implant that she has now.

To help you get in your best race shape, we have included a learn to to run 5km training guide and a run/walk training guide thanks to Kyle Smith and Leanna McLean of The Beaches Blue Devils Athletic Club.  If you sign up in the first 2 weeks, we are inviting you to join our virtual training program. I will send you a weekly training guide, training tips, suggestions and motivation.  I’m also going to organize a few group training runs that you and your children are welcome to attend.
